The small size of the silver particles is important because smaller particles provide a greater surface area per volume which in turn allows the silver to exert a greater effect.
The particles are typically 0.01 to 0.001 of a micron in diameter (about four hundred thousandths to four millionths of an inch), with a positive electrical charge place on each silver particle.
